is 3dmark icestorm a good x-uarch benchmark? because if these numbers are to be believed then mobile socs are still way behind the curb...

first lets look at amds 40nm 9W c-50 apu. [ http://www.3dmark.com/is/652449 ]

3DMark Score 9911.0
Graphics Score 12149.0
Physics Score 6027.0
Graphics Test 1 58.5
Graphics Test 2 48.2
Physics Test 19.1
then look at the tegra 4 [ http://community.futuremark.com/hardware/mobile/Toshiba+Excite+Pro/review ]

Average score 11255
Graphics score 11055
Physics score 12406
Graphics test 1 39.2 FPS
Graphics test 2 62.4 FPS
Physics test 39.4 FPS
also check out the s4 [ http://community.futuremark.com/hardware/mobile/LG+Nexus+4/review ]

Average score 10093
Graphics score 10729
Physics score 8773
Graphics test 1 47.7 FPS
Graphics test 2 45.9 FPS
Physics test 27.9 FPS
I was thinking about the tegra 4 and comparing it to amd a6-1450, a4-1200 and apples a6x. It seems for all its cpu might the tegra 4 still has crap gpu, because if the 40nm, 9W, 1GHz dual bobcat cores, hd6250 can beat it with 64bit ddr3-1066 ram, then the 3.9W a4-1200 soc with 128 gcn cores will definitely continue this trend.

the though is getting jumbled in the numbers and speculation but why hasn't nvidia - a graphics company- gotten the fact that gpu is king for mobile socs? Who needs upto 1.8GHz quad a15s in a mobile device operating with a battery[i know that the c-50 isn't a battery saver itself].

I think Nvidia should have scaled back tegra 4 to be a tri-core[sounds cooler too] 2 big cores and 1 LITTLE then focused on dumping as much gpus and memory controllers on die as possible, it would have been far more balanced[aka the apple approach and here] and probably not run as hot. /rant

It's not as bad as it looks.

Ice Storm Graphics Scores

A4-5000 (15W, HD 8330): 26020
A6-1450 (8W, HD 8250): 21790
Snapdragon 800 (Adreno 330): 21680
A4-1200 est. (3.9W, HD 8180): 11830
Snapdragon 600 (Adreno 320): 11250
Tegra 4 (?): 11050
Exynos 5 Octa (PowerVR SGX544MP3): 10560

Not bad for other mobile parts, at least. A bit worrying for the Tegra 4 if that's the actual score.

2500 points per watt is about as good as you're going to get on this node. And power consumption is and has always been a major factor in gpu performance. Without actual power consumption numbers I dont see how you can draw any meaningful conclusions.
