Enough with the 3DMark bashing. It has it's uses just like any other benchmark. I have always looked at 3DMark as a benchmark to confirm my system is running about where it should 3D-wise. Long ago, when I got a GeForce2MX, I found my system to be much slower than comparable systems using 3DMark01, and was able to troubleshoot a little and basically get 2x the performance from what I was getting previously. Talk about a nice boost in my games at the time as well.

So leave 3DMark alone. The fact alone that your final score isn't posted as frames a second shows this benchmarking program isn't geared towards those who are looking for real-world performance, just a comparison benchmark.

Huh? You are aware aren't you, that the 6800+ series is the first large scale leap in performance in many years, right? Some are saying since the 3DFX series...

I think you'll be waiting a long time if you are looking for anything thats a quantum leap above the 6800+ series my friend.

I thought you thought that 3dfx sucked?

Umm.. Another useless piece of crap 3DFX card of some type

PLEASE don't bring up the 3DFX retards.. I was happy to see 3DFX go out of business if nothing than to shut up those retards that worshipped it like some god and religion...

By the way, how did you know the situation of the 3dfx fanboys on anandtech? you only became a member of anandtech this month...... 3dfx has been gone for almost 4 years now.

Schadenfroh, 3DM2K1 used the Max Payne engine for some parts.

Kobra, you mean since the 9700 Pro or the GF4 4600? Both doubled AA+AD performance over the previous high end, IIRC, in addition to offering much higher overall performance.

Damn, images taken down.

According to the Inquirer, 05 was coming out soon...guess it's 04 instead.

Watch the credits following the demo. You'll see that they say something like "using Max-FX technology from Max Payne".

And Click Help - About and you'll see similar information.

Yeah and with new generation of videocards...3dmark05 or 06 will make them do 5-15. Hardware obsolescence is a fact of life.

I'm thinkin since maybe the Radeon 9700, that was just as if not larger than this new "performance jump"

not useless at all. Its always a good base for comparing with other cards and check whether your card is up (performance wise) with others running the same config/card - whether your PC is configured right etc.

the problem is NOT the benchmark itself - rather that both companies, ATI/NV, keep/kept 'optmizing' their drivers for it in a stupid race for the performance crown.

Btw..whats the difference between a 'synthetic' benchmark and a game-benchmark ? Is the UT2K or Doom benchmark 'better' just because it is part of a game ? These game benchies are as synthetic as the 3dmark benchmark...so why is THIS benchmark 'worse' ? Difficult to follow this logic :)
Besides i have a high opnion about them (futuremark coders) since their games (MPII) etc. use an EXCELLENT engine..and are one of the few people who can write an *efficient* and nice engine which does NOT require 10x the resources like other, much graphically worse, engines. Very good coders there. (My $0.2 !)
