Hi, I dont know if this is typical for my system or what. So far my highest score has been 3982. Im running 3dmark 2001 at 1024*768*16, no AA, V-sync off, double frame buffer, 24 bit Z-buffer, compressed textures, and D3D Hardware T&L. It seems like I had higher scores before I built my newer, better system. Also I havent overclocked anything in my system.

Here's my specs:
Amd Athlon XP 1600
Asus A7V266; Via v4.35 4-in-1's
Hercules Prophet II GTS Pro; Hercules 21.81 drivers
Sound Blaster Live 5.1
256mb Crucial DDR PC2100
Maxtor 40GB 7200rpm

Thanks to anyone who can think of something.

You say 1024x768x16. Do you mean 32 bit color, or did you change it to 16 bit for this test? Using the default settings, my OC'd GF2 Pro gets 3360 3dmarks.

That's better than what I got with my Geforce 2 . I've upgraded to 8500 since, but when I did have it in my system I was getting in the mid 3000 range.

Yours is a decent score for that card.

I was running a T-Bird 1.4

I am running Windows 98SE and yes I changed the color to 16bit, with 32bit color I had scores in the 3500's. My computer is having a problem with fast writes it seems. I was originally using Hercules 3D tweaker and I noticed that fast writes seemed to occasoinally turn itself off. I switched to Geforce Tweak Utility and when I tried to enable fast writes it told me "This feature is reported to cause system instability." I think this is related in some way. I also noticed that 2 or 3 times while booting up bios setup opens and tells me that during boot the system hung while detecting cpu speed and it makes me reselect the processor speed. Thanks for all the responses guys.

That does seem low. I have a T-Bird 1200 with GeForce2 Ultra and I get 4300. Have you reformatted in a while?

Did you overclock the video card? On my kids Duron 750@1064MHz their Gainward Pro 450 @240/467 gets 4000 at default 3DMark 2001, on my t-bird 1000@1512Mhz it gets about 5000. I resistor modded it to a Quadro2 Pro and flashed to the nvidia Quadro 2 reference bios. At stock speed I am sure the scores would be more like 3000 and 4000.

I did just reformat and reload Windows 2 days ago and no I didnt overclock my card. I was in Geforce Tweak Utility and I hit the "fast settings" button. When I ran 3dmark my score increased to 4697 but of course now my image quality was horrible. I then enabled agp fast writes in GTU and when I ran 3dmark again my score was 4694. I had always thought that fast writes made framerates go up not down. I decided it was time for a second opinion. I installed and ran 3dmark 2000 with my computers settings before using GTU and 3d mark's standard settings. (1024*768, 16-bit color, 16-bit Z-buffer depth, triple frame buffer) I got a score of 8778. I then enabled fast writes and got 8776. I dont know why Im not getting any improvement with fast writes enabled but that seems to be part of the problem. I decided to install and run Unreal Tournament for a real game performance test. I ran it in 1024-768, 16-bit color, no AA, fast writes disabled, and got an average framerate of about 110 in the first level of deathmatch. I then enabled fast writes and got an average framerate of about 105 still no improvement although over 100fps in 1024*768 is pretty good.

Installed the 4.37(a) Via 4-in-1's, I had the 4.35's. Also I installed the Via AGP 4.10 driver. 3dmark 2001 score shot up to 4580 with same settings. Nearly 600 point increase. Guess fast writes work now. I then installed the Detonator 23.11's and my score was 5008.
