After all the court crap is over, what will happen to the technology and manufacturing?

Does anyone think it will return under new name and management?

I just don't understand in my naive little perspective why a business can't stay alive that is selling a product that is strong enough to razzle it's toughest competitor.
And if that toughest competitor is that much stronger to put under the competition, then we the consumers could be in for some trouble.

They have no technology, and are only keeping a handful of employees. They would have to start completely from scratch. Don't plan on that happening. However, nvidia may release Rampage and such, as they were good products. Also, there was a rumor that they may still sell it under the 3dfx name(which they now own) because of 3dfx' strong retail recognition, but I doubt that.

I read that Buycom has been asked to remove all Voodoo's from the shelves saying that officialy there will be no more support after Feb.15. I was looking to buy a 5500 but now I don't know. Some of the "disgruntled" ex employees have set up their own site and contend that they will continue work on a last set of drivers which were started before all this went down. I think that Nvidia will possibly cash in on the market name of Voodoo and at ther very least incorporate some of their technologies into future cards. You can check out the site by the x-employess at:

(the page is currently down...go see what it says)

If you were planning on getting a V5, ou still should. It is a great card, the current drivers are excellent, and it may still have support through x3dfx(which you already mentioned).

I thought nvidia bought all the tech know-how and patents, but none of the liability (warranties). Seems silly to buy a V5 now with no promise of future support if it craps out in 6 mo. And it would seem unlikely that nvidia would sell them for cheap seeing as they're competing with geforce cards.

True, but after 6 months what would a Voodoo5 run? LOL...

Just a thought, but I guess I can prove myself wrong on that one because I'm still using a V3 in my Mac. ;)

I think it'd be cool if Nvidia incorporates glide support in the next driver release for the Geforces.

I'm SURE nVidia will use the Voodoo name, because it's the last video card that hundred's of thousands of people have used and *darn* it worked gud. I don't know what they'd put in their new "Voodoo" cards, though;). Certainly not VSA100's... Maybe nVidia will come out with a separate line for the name, who knows.

I'll bet they just use the current Voodoo cards and let them run their course (Voodoo3's still sell like hotcakes) and then let the name slowly die out.
