Th v3 3k in my primary system died this week. Does anyone know if there is anyone still honoring the 3dfx warranty? I kinda doubt it, but thought I'd check.

Thanks

I just returned my dead V5 5500 to Best Buy about 3 weeks ago, and they swapped me out for a AIW Radeon, and payed me the difference from what I had paid on my original purchase of the V5. Then on top of that I got a mail-in rebate for 30 bucks. so all-in-all, i got the radeon, plus about $50 back for the price difference, and then a $30 mail-in. I'm pretty happy. :D

I did have my reciept showing date of purchase from there though.

How long ago did you purchase it from them? That's where mine came from originally, too. Still have the receipt, I think.

Only had it for about 5 or 6 monthes. Might try taking yours back with the receipt. It's worth a shot anyhow =). I think they honor a 1year manufaturers warranty on em. not positive though.

hope that helps. =)

That does help a lot, got mine about 6 mos ago, as well. Did you have to argue with them for it, or is this something they are doing since 3dfx is oob.

I didn't have to argue at all. I just told 'em it was dead and showed them that I only had it for 6 months. They said I'd either have to get the money i paid for it back (in store credit), or pick another card since they weren't selling the V5's anymore. I went with the radeon AIW that they had in stock, and they swapped me out and gave me the cash back for the difference between them. Then I got the mail-in rebate from the promotion Best Buy was doing with the card at the time (hard to say how long it will be until i actually SEE that money though). Anyhow, they'll probably work with you. If not, just let them know that you are very dissatisfied that they won't stand behind their products, and see if you can get a manager to change their minds. I mean COME ON!! you shouldn't have to replace your video card every 6 months because the one you bought was defective.

let me know what happens.

Dofarlow,

You didn't have PMs enabled, so I hope you will see this here. All I can say is thanks for the info!!! Went to BB today, no receipt (went with the rebate form), just the original box. The girl at the desk tried to give me a stink about it being so old, then it missing the upc. She finally agreed to return it with a 15% restocking fee! After attempting to explain to her that they couldn't possibly restock it because it is bad, and they don't sell them any longer due to 3dfx being kaput. She grabbed a manager who enlightened her about their return policies for defective items (no restock), and the special circumstances with the 3dfx items.

Needless to say, got my store credit. Now just have to figure out what to spend it on since I already purchased a new card.

Any way. Thanks again. I really appeciate the help, I wouldn't have even thought about it.

I don't want to suggest "crime" to people but I did notice how anybody who bought from a chain store should be able to get a refund on the V5 now that they've run out of them. so in theory mine could be just borrowed for 364 days lol. but I got the card so cheap there's little point in returning it. I probably wouldn't swap it for a GTS even.
