3dfx vs nvidia vs ati wars...

I notice we get one of these every time someone even mentions the words video and card in one sentence. Recently it seems that the nvidia boosters are in full force as they have a lot more to say it seems since their cards have a larger unnoticeable difference in speed. All i have to say is that all these cards are damn fast, and its annoying that every normal video card question because a big ass flame war and destroys the original intent of the post. Mostly i've seen bfg10k and some really hardcore nvidi0ts really lighting up the board. You hardcore video card preachers are all like 12 - 13 years old right? Sometime i just think you should have a license to go on the internet... Do you guys even logoff anandtech? Why dont you guys just leave the damn board and just go to nvidia headquarters and just suck all their dicks since you guys are headed in that directions anyways.

Worst of all, we dont even get half decent discussions on video cards now. if i asked "how come the 2d on my X card is blurry" someone would eventually say something like "your card blows ass get a geforce2 since its got the fastest framerates.", which wouldn't help or even have anything to do with 2d or blurriness.

And i'm not just saying this about nvidia people , i'm sure there would be a ton of 3dfx wackos out there if they had a better card to PREACH about. you know i dont like it when AT&T tries to convert me to their service which is basically what you guys are doing. Right now it seems like the nvidia people are really belligerant though, the 3dfxers aren't nearly as bad, and the ATI people dont really say much nor matrox.

I couldn't agree more, hans.

I am guilty of getting sucked into those flame wars. I just get tired of seeing the likes of Hardware and BG10K bashing 3dfx irrationally. I mean, if they want to point out a factual downside to the Voodoo cards, then that's fine.

But generally they just ride on such statements as &quot;3dfx sucks&quot;, or &quot;you'll get burnt if you buy 3dfx&quot; or just bashing them for having a sli solution.

Personally I don't care much if someone buys a GTS, Radion, or V5 video card. They are all excellent pieces of hardware. But to bash 3dfx incessantly, is very annoying. It seems to be &quot;in style&quot; to put down 3dfx every chance you get, around here.

I have done this on numerous occasions and each time you have downplayed them or have stated that I can't have a valid opinion because I don't own one.

Tell me, if you own the card are you able to magically look inside it and see the flaws it has?

I don't care what anyone says, I'll always think of 3dfx and Voodoo as the &quot;coolest&quot; cards. They really did a bang up job of marketing with the Voodoo3 series. Cool boxes, funny comercials (I still laugh at the &quot;all white meat chickens&quot; one).

Hmmm, of course, I ended up buying a Geforce2, though :/
If they were just a bit better with Quake3. Actually, It was the comments from John Carmack that I recall influencing me. He seemed more taken with the nVidia stuff.

My first 3D card was a Monster3D. The first 3D game I ran was Hexen2. I about peed myself. They brought the industry along quite a way.

Let people say whatever they want. People who argue this stuff in some small way feed the competition between the companies which in turn benefits all of us who buy the stuff. At least we still have 4 companies in the market that can compete. Well, 5 once the new Trident chip comes out. It's gonna OWN nv20.
