an interesting hypothesis for why Nvidia purchased 3dfx
Some extract:
"There is one huge gaping reason for this purchase: they are about to go into battle, and probably try to win, against Rambus Inc. There are questions of their memory architecture using licensed Rambus technology; and this is troublesome. Remember that Rambus thinks they own the patents on DDR memory - but NVidia is not producing DDR memory, they buy it. That leaves either the DDR memory *controller* architecture, which is a very very scary precedent, or something about the core chip design."
Any comments?
