well ... we all know that the 3dfx is over ... but i read something about that Nvidia should give some kind of support about the stuff the've bought ...

i don't remember how much time would last for this ...

so, that's the question ... will Nvidia give support to the 3dfx stuff they bought ? un the terms of the selling there was something that would make Nvidia HAVE to give this support ?

i heard that this should begin at the end of may, but thats about june's end and nothing happened ...

thanks

NVIDIA doesn't have to do anything. 3dfx went broke. 3dfx didn't have money to continue. So they decided the best solution was to shutdown 3dfx. Shutting down 3dfx costs money so they sold their I.P. to Nvidia to cover the costs of shutting down. They are still separate companies. Its kind of like when a company licenses technology from another company. Well, this time, NVIDIA just bought out the technology from 3dfx. 3dfx is the company you should be complaining to. I think its pretty crummy what they did to their customers but I guess that is the business world.

Unfortunately NVidia is not going tp provide any technical support or warranty onolder 3dfx products.

You can still get limited Tech Support and Warranty through the North American branch of 3dfx. information is on their home page.

Bah you can never apreciate something to it's full extent untill you lose it. Nobody thought 3dfx had good drivers when they were alive. Only now, after their death do people realise the good points of having a 3dfx card.

Actually its a very small vocal group who appreciate the "good points" of 3dfx cards. Most of the board is running NVidia based rigs as you can see from the system rig stats.

Not that 3dfx never made good cards its just people seem to think more of them now that they are gone.

"ohhh yes they had a great card just round the corner f*** you Nvidia for killing them"

Half the 3dfx zealots are still under the impression that 3dfx was "the bomb yo".

3dfx had the best drivers for gaming but the did not make good OEM cards. I went from 3dfx to NVIDIA back to 3dfx and also to ATI and even Matrox (I even tried the S3) but each time, I kept coming back to 3dfx for gaming.

NVIDIA did not kill 3dfx. 3dfx had a bunch of Voodoo 5 chips but they didn't have any cash to buy memory to make any more boards. They even had to borrow money from NVIDIA to continue operations. This was after they laid off their employees so it wasn't like they had to pay them salary. They borrowed money so they could afford to shut down. If NVIDIA hadn't come along, some other company would have.

The employees got 2 months of salary after they were laid off...

I always enjoied my Voodoo 3's driver support in the past; now unfortunately I'm having trouble finding glide 2.x libs for linux. Does anyone have these drivers posted? nVidia seems to have changed 3dfx's mind regarding linux support! TIA
