3dfx does another great thing and all the nvidia fans start up again with their 3dfx bashing. All i have to say is that my v5 5500 gets higher framerates in Q3 then a gefarce Ultra!

There is a major difference there. The GeForce 2 Ultra can display a 3D scene without crap popping up all over the place. Current 3dfx HSR implementation es el poopoo.

That's exactly why I said it. So that nvidia fans would get a taste of what we 3dfx fans have been getting.

For example:

nvidiot: My gfarce runs 3dmarks2k super fast
3dfx fan: Quake3, rune, UT, diablo2, nolf, etc. run silky smooth, and look great on my V 5.
nvidiot: yeah, but i have better 3dmarks scores.

First 3dfx fans boast "superior" fsaa (which is only mildly superior), now they are boasting higher frame rates that can't currently implement HSR without missing "visible surface" and stutterin with fsaa enabled. On top of this Nvidia uses onboard gpu which helps weaker cpu's while 3dfx's HSR use cpu cycles slowing it down in cpu intensive areas and events such as foggy areas, and smoke from rockets. 3dfxers boasted "more stable frame rates" yet, when you have faster frame rates bigger drops are more acceptable because they have further to fall. However the cpu intensive areas make the HSR produce very unstable frame rates making them even slower than not using HSR in some instances. Every little insignificant thing they boasted about is forgotten in light of the new events.

Sorry if I seem to have trashed your thread. The HSR drivers are quite a bonus, just tired of all the hypocracy from either side. I'm liking ATI lately.

That's true, so now Nvidiots can't say anything, since the nvidia beta drivers were unstable and left crap on the screen also, just had speed...and now it's 3dfx's turn to do the same thing. Ha.

nippyjun/nippel(or what ever): I think your comments all over this forum is childish. Instead of acting like a f*cking 10 years old child with substancial troubles regarding the size of your penis. Then try being subjective in this matter.

It's mostly guys like you who starts all these flames. Most of us here doesn't even care what brand except we buy whatever is best out there based on reviews and opinions from others on messageboards.

Its about time 3dfx started using some of Gigapixels technology. I remember talking to Gigapixel's reps during this years GDC and they were mentioning HSR as one of the features which allow their cards to run so fast even though they were only clocked at 100MHz. I can't believe it has taken 3dfx to impliment this into their drivers.

I love my 5500, but some of the 3dfx dingleberries acrawling out of the woodwork are quite embarassing

the GTS Ultra is faster than the 5500, period.

nippyjun, you're just trying to start $hit, right?

<sigh>

please stop. It's silly.

oh, and pidge? gigapixel is built from the ground up as a dedicated tiler. Tilers are, by nature, very efficient at doing HSR. The 5500, like the GTS and RAdeon, are both conventional renderers, so implementing this in drivers can be tricky.

man, i swear, if all the 3dfx fans were like robo, there would be FAR less 3dfx haters. personally, with the latest driver releases (not the HSR one tho) v5 is a better choice overall compared to radeon or gts :)

Yes, but nVidia STILL hasn't implemented anything like this.

"if all 3dfx fans were like Robo, there would be FAR less 3dfx haters"

You mean, if all 3dfx fans pointed out some of the weaknesses of 3dfx cards?

I've been with 3dfx since the original voodoo1. I didn't jump ship so to speak and then start bashing the pioneer in 3dgaming (3dfx) like so many nvidia fans have done. I guess a lot of nvidia fans don't realize what 3dfx did for gaming and for pc computing.

NIPPYJUN:

Dude, if half of 3dfx's old fans/users jumped ship to nVIDIA, what's it to you? What do you or anyone else expect when 3dfx took "too" long get the V5 to market? I remember and liked the good old days when we used to program using a hex pad, but I sure as hell didn't keep using a hex once today's keyboard came out. Actually, the whole hex pad thing was just for illustration; I've never used a frickin' hex pad in my life (a real one anyway).

If 3dfx puts out some good chips, and some good cards are made, they'll get their market share back and then some. Until then just relax, play games, and try not to get your panties in a big frickin' wad! ;)

I see the point you're trying to make, but you will get slapped to high heaven for comments like that.

RoboTECH:

Actually implementing drivers for any sort of HSR/tiling scheme is tricky, regardless of how the card was designed. Just look at the visual artifacts the Kyro exhibits.

indeed, very good points BFG

nippyjun, it's not about "jumping ship" or "taking sides"

Only a fool "takes sides" in the technology business, unless you have a vested interest in a company.

My last 10 video card purchases:

1) Diamond Monster Voodoo1 (WH000000000T!!! glquake baby!!! Lara's smoothed out glide bubbies!!!)

2) ATi RAge Pro (D'OH!!!!)

3) Diamond Riva 128 (d'oh!)

4) 2xCreative Labs Voodoo2 Blaster (SLI - the most dominant gaming setup EVER)

5) Voodoo3 2000 AGP

6) Creative Tnt2 Ultra - outstanding Quake2 card. Kept it longer than any other card

7) Guillemot Prophet2 32MB GTS

8) Voodoo5-5500

9) Creative Labs OEM 64MB GTS

10) Voodoo5-5500

I give a horny rat's ass what card is in my system or who makes it. I only care about what I see on my screen. If Trident were to release the newest/latest/greatest card out there, I'd be all over it like white on rice. I have no loyalty to any video card company, I only have loyalty to how my games play.

I'm not a "3dfx fan". I'm a "voodoo5 fan". Guess what happens if the NV20 whups on Spectre? I'll be a "NV20 fan", not an "nvidia fan".

I'm not a company fan, I'm a product fan. There's a major difference. 3dfx hasn't done anything great YET with HSR. It shows potential, and I'm hoping like hell it works out great and they fix the anomalies, but right now, IT JUST DOESN'T WORK (yet?)

That being said, the 1.04.01 drivers givea slight performance increase, and fix a few small bugs, from what I can tell. Typical 3dfx. Little by little, their drivers keep getting better and better.
