3dfx changes direction Graphics-chip company to abandon card-manufacturing business...

Finally they make a second smart move. (The first was hiring a new CEO).

The question now is which board maker is going to build there card?

Last I remember CL was pissed with 3dfx for

A) abandoning them
B) not providing any driver support after they went the STB path.
C) CL (others like Diamond etc) complained of low profits associated with 3dfx cards - not sure what the reason for that was.

There are always smaller makers like Asus Guillemot etc but whos to say they wont take the plans running in hand to NVidia or that NVidia hasn't signed exclusion contracts?

Add to that Rampage can't be a very complicated solution like 4 chips (rumored 2 T&L chips + 2 gfx chips) because it gets harder to manufacture and as a result harder to execute.

Interesting times we live in 🙂
