Well, they haven't been made for quite some time now..

And you shouldn't REALLY have a problem obtaining one, for whatever reason you want one I don't know.. no one's writing drivers for them (at least commercially) so if a game doesnt' work with it, you're probably going to be out of luck.

well ... i know ...
but ...
everybody here that owns a vd5 and also is often speaking in here is not complaining about it ...

all i see here is something like " these drivers are really mature, as are a year old and yet working and fast ... "

yes ... they are not heaven, and so is the card ...

but thats just to have idea, if i plan to get one ...

thanks anyway ... :)

Most retail places don't carry the Voodoo5 anymore. You can still find them in online stores though, check Pricewatch to find some, along with prices. They are pretty cheap these days.

You can find them on the net for under $100, The drivers will work with any game out their and their are places that are still coming out with drivers, I have top of the line everything and still use the 5500, I think it is that good, Just me but I looked at all the cards and got another 5500 for a backup

the voodoo5 plays every game I have tried and play just fine (using win98se) but sooner or later the lack of driver update will catch up to me. but still I'm not worried as I have had the card since the day it came out and I'm very happy with it. I get a new graphics card every 1 year to a year and half anyhow, so by the end of the 2001 I will have something else in my system. it looks like the V5 will never play on windows XP, no big deal to me, but it maybe for other people

Just a note to say that there are still new drivers coming for the V5, just not official drivers from 3dfx. x3dfx released a set of drives and one of the smaller manufacturers (forget which one) has a VSA100 based card that is still recieving driver updates.

real future driver updates for the voodoo cards looks bad, maybe no more. The Reason why? NVIDIA why wouldn't release the code, my next card most likely will not be geforce.

I have a Voodoo5-5500 AGP and I'm very happy with it. It plays every game I'ze got so far perfectly and, in Direct3D, there is no performance hit using 4x FSAA!!!

"...and, in Direct3D, there is no performance hit using 4x FSAA!!!"

Oh c'mon now!

I used to have a V5, and yes I think it was one of the top video cards ever made. I'm a big fan of the V5. But "no performance hit using 4x FSAA"???

I just Upgraded from a 'Hercules 3D Prophet 2 MX' to a VooDoo5 and haven't had any problems with any of the latest Games. My 'Prophet' and its Drivers caused all sorts of problems with my Motherboard, but the V5 is problem free, and a lot faster.

AMD Duron 800MHz @ 900MHz
EPOX 8KTA3 Motherboard
256MB PC133 SDRAM
VooDoo5 5500 AGP
Seagate 17GB HDD
SONY CRX-140E CDR/CDRW
and the rest...

:(:p It hurt me to see 3dfx go. It hurts even more that Nvidia won't even back any of 3dfx products.....they are gonna let it die on its own.
Heads up all 3dfx owners. Nvidia will not make any updates they are jus focused on the 3dfx plans they aquired...

Geez:|

well ... if i use the XP and that old drivers, wont work ?
just because the drivers wont came within the OS, does it mean that an outlander one wont work ?

...

well.. heheh after reading all this thread ... i'm more confused ever ...

i love 3dfx, my vd3 knows it ... so

Kyro 2 / Voodoo5 ?

i'll then buy both ... ://

Damn Nivida would not release the code to make Voodoo drivers after purchasing the company? Well there goes my cash for xbox and ANY future Nivida upgrade (Was definatly considering G3 in 6months). Thats just sick to make current owners of V5 cards have no support.

Death to Nivida

Long Live Ati, STM, PowerVR, Bitboys (Shaw Right), and any other 3d manufactuer that can hurt Nividas sells.

<rolleyes>

With what, a Pentium 60 MHz?

The V5 was a good card but let's be realistic about it.

i've found though pricewatch, an inno3d at 105 and hercules about 120+, both retail ... so no lose going with innod3d right ?

I think the Propeht 4500 ships with PowerDVD 3 (Supposedly best DVD player software out there) where as the Inno ships with Windvd2k (Still very good DVD software).

Also the Inno is supposed to support AGP 4x (According to their site) and the Prophet 4500 only AGP 2x.

Which is better? I guess whichever has the features you want. Since so similar price should probably be the most determining factor.

www.inno3d.com ? if so its not up :///

well... was always i huge doubt of mine ... does it really make such a also huge difference AGP 2x and 4x ? was always a big doubt this from voodoo5 performance ... cause all others cards are 4x and it is just 2x ... as is my voodoo3 ...

this case, just the inno3d with its 4x AGP is twice faster than Hercules and just 2x ? ( how much faster it is ? )

matheus

ps: well, if this doesn't make that huge sense, so that's not the reason why vd5 was slower than the others ... great ... hehehehe imay get one if so ...
