3dfx--a smart move

So sorry to see them go--I have tried both 3dfx and nVidia boards and have always preferred 3dfx, fantastic 2D and always stable. Except for lots of unused speed, nVidia based boards look like crap in comparison to ALL other MFG's (not their fault I realize, but that of the boardmakers; but true nevertheless).

Of course 3dfx Fu*^% up and for the most part backed themselves into a corner, but they seem to have also decided to get out while the getting can yield them something in return.

With the unquestionable rise of consoles, I'm not too sure that high end card's have a promising future for the PC. For a while, yes, but for how much longer? There is already the well documented trend of developers migrating toward consoles. Of course with only nVidia left, developing for the PC suddenly becomes much easier!! Does nVidia make chips for consoles? I'm not sure. Except to squash the lawsuits, I can't imagine a reason in the world they would have wanted to bother with 3dfx at all--certainly not for the technology or the name...

Anyhow...it just seems like a weird choice to even bother with 3dfx in a possibly dying market..so it must have been the lawsuits..

Bye, Bye 3dfx 🙁
Don't spend all the money in one place..

yes they do, or will rather. fro the microsoft x-box.

I read somewhere once that 3dFX cards were similar to Camero's; they go real fast when driving straight ahead, but are awful on sharp turns....don't know if that's a poor analogy or not, but I never did like GM.😉

Yes that is a poor analogy, my Z28 does very well on turns thank you and it can take any mustang (road course or drag) I've encountered or rice burner for that matter also!! Nvidia is more of a definition of what you call a one trick dog. I've had both and the 3dfx was more well rounded but I prefer the speed that nvidia offers.. I love this v5 but now that theyre dead I better switch up to nvidia again..
