I just overheard one of the reps at Best Buy talking about 3D TV coming this week. I was there to take a look at the LG Super IPS 32" LCD that just came in stock at New Egg for cheaper. Apparently you'll need a 3D Blue-Ray player & glasses to view 3D movies etc. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Before a sticky is made, how good of pictures are one of these new 3d TV's going to be able to take? If you put a circular polarizer filter on one, can you still see the 3d effect through the glasses?

A 32" TV doesn't sound too portable if I wanted to take it hiking to take some photos.
 
We sure have been seeing an increase in the number of TV threads here in the photography forum lately. I guess Live View is confusing people into thinking that cameras can be used as televisions...

Yup, exactly! I was a split second away from clicking submit order on this Super IPS panel for 469$ (promocode = EMCYPZN39 - ends March 18th)

EDIT: i did stop by BB today to look at the new 3D HDTVs and they are very nice. The only drawback is when will networks offer 3D TV; for now, the only thing in 3D you'll watch will be your 3D Blue Ray that needs a 3D Blue Ray player.

I believe the ps3 can do 3d bluerays after a firmware update. That is one of the better things about the ps3 as a blue ray player is that you are sure to get a lot of updates for it where as the bargain blueray models that are discontinued may not get much support.

You just need a PS3, it is already been certified for 3D. Yet another example of why the PS3 has continued to be the best blu-ray player on the market. It has so much more processing power then anything else that even when something completely new has come out or been introduced into the blu-ray spec, the PS3 has continued to be able to handle it.

That seems like a really nice tv. At 120Hz, it can do 3d as a monitor with the nvidia glasses.

Maybe it should be in hot deals...

Edit: One of the reviews says the tv is not really 120Hz, but some simulation and doesn't work with Nvidia 3D. Yuck.

They are coming out just in time, too. All the LCD and plasma HDTVs people bought last year and spent 1000s on are just now breaking out of warranty. Convenient for the manufacturers, huh? So much for all those fake claims of 60-100k hours on your shiny new HDTVs.

This is one stupid techno train I refuse to willingly pile on to.

Now, if I have to replace a HDTV in the near future, and all I can buy is 3D, then I will have no choice.

But until then, I don't give a crap about 3D HDTV. And nobody can change my mind or make me like it.

I have a slight desire to buy a 3D HDTV, but probably not enough to act on it yet.

I was a big fan of Avatar in the theaters. I've also tried Left 4 Dead 2 (for PC, on my HDTV) in 3D, and its a lot of fun like that - I used the lame 3D approach though (anaglyph, $5 colored glasses) so I'd like to see what it's like with true colors.
 
I love 3D on IMAX, however, not enough that I would even consider watching more than a few things/week on a top quality 3D LCD. Not for awhile until it matures a bit. Things like sports, law and order, etc IMHO would be annoying.

120hz.. its just a refresh thing.
