At the bilkent University a team of 175 European scientist under leading of the Turkish Prof. Dr. Onursal have started their work to develop the next generation 3d Television system, the project is co-financed with 6,15mln Euro by the EU. Apart from the Bilkent university also 19 institutions, Koç university and Orta Doðu Teknik university do participate in the project of the future TV

3D capture, transmission and display is a challenge of today's technology. The 3DTV project will explore several issues, like imaging and computer graphics, signal processing, telecommunications, electronics, optics and physics principles, to find out possibilities to create, transmit and display 3D object in a way that human will not be only perceiving 3D images, but also be able to interact with them. The primary objective is to align European researcher with different expertise to collaborate on complementary areas to explore possibilities of 3D scene capture, representation, transmission, display and interaction.

they had a video game that was like this in arcades about 10 years ago if I recall correctly. It had a definite "wow" factor, but it was a pretty lame game as I recall. anyone remember the name of it?

--edit-- it was called time traveler (google is a beautiful thing)

Wow, that's pretty cool, is there any indication of how long until this 3D TV will be marketable?

And I remember that game Time Traveler, at my local Aladdin's Castle one play was 4 quarters during the time when 1 play for most other games were 1 quarter. It was pretty crappy and expensive.

they have this technology at the science museum here, it has a little tour guide that talks about space and moon rocks...it's really cool. so screw hd when this comes out...this will make watching sports, or anything for that matter, worthwhile. hell, i won't even have to buy a ticket to a game ever again.
