3D Studio Max - Is it tough to learn?

Hello all, I was looking at my high school registration courses and apparently we can take a 3D rendering class. After asking around I determined that the class was based around 3D Studio Max v4. The class is supposedly extremely easy if you know how to use 3dmax so I am going to get my dad to bring me a copy from his business (calm down you anti-piracy zealots, he's got a few extra licenses). Anyway, to get around to the question. How hard is it to learn, and what are some good books/tutorials I should look at? Thanks for your time.
 
if you takin it from a class it shouldent be that hard at all.
