Hello everyone,

I'd like to ask a bit of advice regarding buying 4 components for a system that will mainly be used for 3D offline and realtime rendering, modeling, texturing etc. I will be using software like Maya, 3DSMax, Unreal 4, ZBrush, Arnold Renderer, VRay, Substance Designer and Painter, Photoshop etc. I occasionally play games as well, so I'm not looking for a Xeon + Quadro build, don't really need it.

The components I need are CPU + cooler, motherboard and RAM. My budget is 900 GPB. The store I'll be buying from is www.scan.co.uk in England.

What I have at the moment:

SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 500GB
HDD: 2TB Seagate
Graphics card: ASUS 970GTX
PSU: Corsair CX600
Screens: 2x Dell Ultrasharp U2311H
Case: Corsair Carbide 300R

I am looking at the:

CPU: Intel i7 - 7700K, Kaby Lake - 350 GBP
CPU Cooler: I have no idea
Mobo: ASUS ROG Strix Z270 - 180 GBP
RAM: Corsair 32GB Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200MHz, 4x 8GB CAS 16 - 18 - 18 - 36 OR Corsair Vengeance Red LED 32GB DDR4 3000MHz, 4x8GB 15 - 17 - 17 -35 - 250GBP

So far that's 780 GBP.

Thanks very much!

Well... I mean, it looks like you're on the right track... 120 GBP should be plenty for a case and CPU cooler. If you're not overclocking, you don't need anything particularly fancy in either department.

Maybe go cheap and keep enough budget for a 2-3TB HDD for "cold" data.

dave_the_nerd: thanks for the reply. I actually have the HDDs and case as well, so all I need are the mentioned 4. Yeah, feels like I can't go wrong with the new Kabylake i7, but would like to hear some opinions before actually purchasing. Cheers!

You seem to have a lot of components already... are you upgrading? If so, and it's anything from the last 5 years that has 4 or more threads, don't bother. Save your money. Otherwise looks like you have a really solid build. Best of luck!
