Am looking at putting a TV over the fire place in the living right now and am thinking about 3d.

Will eventually add a projector and a 90+ inch screen in my upstairs loft as well and am wondering about 3d projectors and how they work etc.

Has anyone researched 3d projectors yet?
Is the tech similar to 3d tv?
Can I use the same glasses etc etc?

At $1500 for cheapest 50inch 3d tv I am thinking I may be better off spending that money on the projector + screen and going with the BIG 3d in my loft and just leave the living room with no TV at all for now.

Thoughts?

Movies and perhaps video games.

Watched some 3d demos at BestBuy and the games look like the best part of 3d right now.

I explored 3D for my projector room with 120 inch screen in my basement. I ultimately decided against it because the wife HATED the glasses and the cost of entry with the limited sources were the final deciders.

The cheap 720P 3d projectors are cheap and would do fine since all the 3d cable content is 1080i anyways.

I firmly believe we are 2-4 years years away from glasses free 3d and that will be the paradigm shift the industry hoped it would be..otherwise its very niche...

I don't know... I think getting to passive glasses would make a huge difference.

Wearing glasses like the ones in the theaters is no big deal and they are much cheaper than we is out there now.

BTW I found some 3d projectors but there is nothing 'cheap' yet. $5000 was the least expensive none DLP projector.

^ that is a DLP projector which means it has to run through your computer.

You can't just hook up a 3d blu-ray etc etc.

Check out the Optoma HD66...~$700 720p DLP but it produces a fantastic picture. Works with your PC for 3D out of the box, but you can buy a adapter box from Optoma (I think its $300) that will let you get 3D from cable/blu-ray, etc.
