yeah it certainly would be nice if they incorperated this into the next Optical disc standard. that next one will probably be using blue laser tech, rather then the red that has been stretched to the max with DVD's.

now I was wondering as was someone else, why don't they use lasers that are higher frequency then what we see (X-Ray etc). well it's cause they don't exist, at least at consumer prices! I'll bet that there are a few which DO operate at higher frequencies, however they are probably either experimental, or just really expensive.

heh.. Gamma Rays! yikes! the only known source of Gamma Rays are supernova's right? hehe..

This isn't optical storage, this is fluorescent storage....


The disks will be read with a laser..That's OPTICAL storage...

AFAIK, the difference isn't the laser, the difference is how the CD player reads the CD. the Laser illuminates a part of the CD, which then gives off it's own light.
