3D modeling software for building desks, cabinets, etc?

Anyone know of any?

I'm planning on building a computer desk and have it all worked out on paper but would like to see what it would look like in 3D before I start assembling it.

AutoCAD should do it.

Both Autocad and Solidworks cost several thousand dollars. He might as well pay someone to design and build a desk.

It would cost 200-250 to buy the program, for that amount of money I could have just bought a nice desk.

It sounds like Solidworks is a plugin program

You used to be able to download an old version of Caligari TrueSpace, version 2 IIRC. Pretty cool stuf.
