3D mark score....

Besides for being used in virtual pissing contests/whose got the bigger e-penis, what are 3D mark scores used for? Is there like a guide some where where it tells you what kind of games you can play if you get a specific 3D mark score? Can a 3D mark score help predict how long into the future your system should last?

To me it seems fairly indicative of a video card's overall performance. Like any benchmark, it simply cannot be the definitive as some games run better on certain hardware and such. However, at least with 3dmark05...it is not indicative of CPU performance in games. All their tests show Intel CPUs on the same level with A64 CPUs, and we know that's not the case from any recent game.
