3d glasses, how do they work?

Are they like the old Blue/Red glasses you get that just change the way you view the monitor? Or are their ones u can actually put on, and they hook up to your V Card and get a signal frmo the computer?

If your talking about the revelator glasses, they plug in. The suck if you have glasses. What vid card are you using?

am not using anything just yet, am exploring options, would like to play. rite now all my systems have banshees or higher, but 3dfx based v cards.

Well, here's what I know about the Revelator glass(from Elsa). They do work, it does look 3d. But on the down side, the screen is darker, and it can be a little disoreintating is your not looking at the screen at the right angle. They only work with d3d games(no open gl). Must have a nvidia based video card to use these glasses. Nvidia drivers(as of yet) do not support them, so you have to use an elsa variation of driver. To me they're a nifty toy, but until the nvidia ref driver support them(the 10.5 detonator isn't official yet, but appears to) they're not an everday/everplay thing. They work by basically cover in eye while the monitor displays 2 images, so fast that it appears to be 3d. Also, the monitor refresh rate needs to be high to work(110mhz) otherwise the image appears to be flashing.
I used to have a Metabyte Wicked Venegence vid card(a voodoo chipset)that supported 3d, but never could find anyone who sold the glasses, so I guess I'm no help to you if you go the voodoo route.

The 3D glasses works as follows: the video card will display 2 images
alternatively, one for the left eye and one for the right eye. the 3D glasses will block your left eye and right eye alternatively as well,
so when the screen shows the image for the left eye, your glasses will block your right eye and vice versa. Which explains why you'll need such a high refresh rate, basically you'll need to achieve 120hz on the monitor for 60hz on each eye.

forgot to mention that the glasses will be need to connect to the video card so they can sync to each other.
