Parallels 3.0 announced

TUAW article

If you're not familiar with Parallels, it's simliar to VMware but for Mac. OpenGL & DirectX 3D acceleration support, including support for graphics hardware (Vista Aero coming soon, they say). Wow...play games in your Mac - virtually. I wonder how good the support will be!

is it like VMware in the fact that you have to stand up a new OS to install the game onto? if so i'm not really sure that it will work good enough...but if it does then thats good for them it just seems like the overhead will be too much doing the OS emulation AND the direct3d/opengl emulation

lame. if you have enough money for a Mac, then you obviously have enough money for an XBOX 360 Elite...

I know the VMware beta has 3D support, but it's still in beta. The current version of Parallels runs really, really well. I can even use Photoshop CS perfectly. I'm excited about the new version, looks pretty nice! The $40 upgrade fee is kinda dumb though. I think I'll wait to see how good the 3D support is before plunking down the cash for the upgrade.

Wouldn't Boot Camp make more sense?

And I don't really care if I can play games on my MacBook Pro. That's what I have a gaming PC for.

Sounds cool...although I'm not sure it'll make a difference on my Macbook's crappy 945GM

Boot Camp is still in beta. Plus not everyone wants to reboot their computer just to play a game. I'm very interested in this...

Yay for 2003 game engines!

How's the performance on this? And when will it come out on Linux? One they can play all games on Linux, I'm ditching windows forever.

Until I can get a Mac that performs at least as well as my PC for the same cost or less, I'm not going to switch. What will a Mac do for me that my PC won't?

I don't care for several reasons

1. I hate the Mac Design
2. Customizeabilty in the negatives
3. Did I mention Ugly Design?
4. I hate the One button mouse
5. Overclocking .. HAH
6. Bad Price to Performance ratio

Nice to see 3d making it's way into virtualization. I'll pass on the Mac though ;)

The Mac I'm using at work doesn't allow you to cut files, is that how all Macs are? And why does finder continually crash whenever I delete several items at a time.

I'm hoping 2.0 has a bit better performance in the graphics performance, I see little visual glitches when I drag windows around.
