3D Apps not loading correctly

Ok, I've recently had some problems with the pc in my sig. After around 15 or more minutes of usage, if I try to start up a 3D game, such as Battlefield 2, the FPS in the game becomes really low. For example, the intro movies, which are usually around 98-100 fps, drop to anywhere between 30-70 and are noticeably slower. Also, sometimes when I try to open BF2, the screen will turn black and a message appears on my monitor that says "No Signal" or something like that. What could be the problem? I'm hoping it's the videocard because, quite frankly, I despise everything made by MSI. Your thoughts?

My comp does not lock up. It does restart after a while (6 hours roughly). RAM seems fine. Pushed back my cpu to 2.5Ghz at 4x multi. Could it be the video card?

Bump <-- Goddamnit.

defrag?

check the "usual" [device manager . . . run benchmarks tests . . . nothing "loose" in the slots - reseat your videocard]?

reinstall your OS?
[if you have a small partition or an extra HD, just set up the necessary latest drivers [patch your OS but no "apps" ] including Audio and try it again for "games only".]

could be ANYthing including a underpowered Power Supply

edit:

when did this start? Any HW changes? Did it ever run perfectly?

Problems with an X800?
what did you have before it?

I've defragged several times (not as a fix, just in general). I've monitored my PSU with ASUS probe and everything seems to be A-Okay. Got a steady 11.7 something on the 12V rail. I haven't tried reseating the card, although I did have to remove it when I installed my opty (it got in the way of the heatsink). That was about 2-3 months ago and games ran fine. It was only recently that I've seen this problem. The X800 is the only card I've used with this PC (it's new-ish).

try reseating you card and making sure it's power cable is firmly plugged in and the fan is spinning

11.7 ain't so good on the 12v rail . . . 😛
[mine only varies by .02]

anyway, if no one else has any further suggestions . . .

try a separate partition [or an extra old Hard Drive] with nothing but your patched OS [forget IE and outlook updates or any apps but games and maybe 3DMark03/05], MB drivers, audo drivers, latest AGP display drivers and Control panel . . .

if you are still having problems, it is a HW problem. 😉

if it is running fine, reinstall your O/S on your main HD

Have you run Prime/Memtest? If both run without any problems the video card is most likely the culprit. Is the card overclocked, have you monitored the temps while gaming?
