3Com NICs w/3XP processor

While reading Sharky Extreme's latest "high end" gaming computer review, they're recommending a NIC with the 3Com 3XP processor since it offloads some networking tasks onto the card itself. Anyone using one of these 3Com cards and are they worth the added price in terms of overall network performance?

Haven't used them personally, but I thought they just handled encryption onboard (specifically 3DES). I don't think the onboard processor does anything beyond that, but I could be wrong.

I've used them, cant tell the difference, didnt use them for encryption though.... pretty sure that RagMan is right though, that its only for encryption stuff
