3Com NIC locks me up at boot-up (PPPOE sucks..)

I'm having a strange problem w/ my 3Com NIC (I believe it's the 3C900B-TPO).

As you know, there are two network connections associated when you have PPPOE. You have the physical cable itself and the virtual connection PPPOE creates.

When I boot, it takes my NIC about 15 seconds to figure out that this virtual PPPOE connection is disconnected. This, in turn, causes any apps I'm trying to load at startup to freeze. This didn't used to happen in my old system (ASUS P2B-S, P2 350, Win2K) but it happens in my new one I just built (ASUS A7V133, TBird 900, Win2K).

Any advice? I can't live with this, really, it's a huge pain. Should I dump the 3Com NIC and go for a LinkSys or NetGear?

Thanks a ton.

I would look for the latest drivers on 3COM's site, make sure you have SP1 installed, or I would try another 3COM NIC, like the 3C905C-TX card. They work flawlessly.
