3Com & Intel NIC - worth it?

I'm planning on purchasing another NIC card for a new pc i'm building. I currently have a Linksys Etherfast in my PC.

I know that the 3com/Intel brands are higher quality and work better on high capacity networks...but are they worth the extra $10-20? I mean, is there gonna be any MAJOR differences from these higher priced NICs than using a cheap Linksys/Netgear NIC?

well the 3com/intel are undoubtedly higher quality and will be far more reliable.

but according to this NIC comparison the netgear and linksys are the fastest cards. 3com and intel are somewhere in the middle.

to be honest, you can't go wrong.

Here's an interesing quote from JackMDS:

<< I found that the rule is:
If you need a NIC for small Home/SOHO Network, that is under your personal control buy the Cheapest 10/100TX card that you can find.
If you are installing in an office/cooperate network buy 3com/Intel or similar NIC.
