3Com HomeConnect Webcam and Win2k Professional

Recent purchase. Installing the drivers, in advance of the hardware as instructed, from provided CD crashed the OS. Removed in safe mode and installed the updated drivers from the 3Com website. Camera is plugged in, seemingly powered, PnP detected and the drivers assigned. Trouble is it reports a Code 10, device cannot be turned on in Device Manager.

I've installed and re-installed numberous times. I've tried newer Vista Imaging drivers (the folk that make this camera for 3Com). Same result each time.

Anyone gotten this webcam to work with Win2k Pro? How?!
