3com cable modem makes noise

My mother's cable modem started making noise last night, it kept on chiming

anyone know what it is and how to stop it?
 
I have one too and it can be shut off by accessing the setup through IE. It chimes when it renews through the DNS I think.
 
that's the one. how do you get to the controls through the browser? is it an IP address you type, and is there a default ?
