I was listening to this thing about Taj Burrow, one of the Australian pro surfers that I root for.

They're in Rio for Stop #3 on this year's world tour. He went with his trainer to work out with Rickson Gracie. Rickson was trained by his father, Helio Gracie. Rickson has the Rank of 8th Degree Black Belt. He is un-defeated in competition.

Seems like a bad guy to pick a fight with. I wonder how he would do against some of the other Ultimate Fighters.

The common rumor in the surfing world is that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu students roam the beaches, looking for tourists to practice their martial art on.

Pretty impressive guy though !

I always considered Rickson much better his half-brother Royce Gracie, the first UFC champ.

Ironically Rickson was the innovator of what would be later be known as PRIDE FC.

There is this great documentary about Rickson called choke that documents his participation in Japan Vale Tudo Open No Holds Barred Fighting one-night Elimination Tournament, I highly recommend it: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0251637/

actually he is (last i read) 400-1 though the one loss was because some confusion on the rules.

edit: also there is some dispute as to the 400 "matches" He has one claim where he beat 25 people in one day..

Actually I think Rickson exaggerated his wins - counting non-official ones; his father Helio once joked that if he counted wins that Rickson does, he'd have millions of wins.

He could kick MY ass easy, though!

in grappling/BJJ the guy is great. his honesty with his record? yeah not so great. though it is a pitty he isn't younger. i would love to see how he does in today's MMA

The thing is that nowadays the top fighters in UFC and Pride almost all know some BJJ and Mui Thai style, mixed in with other styles. Against a top UFC fighter he would probably lose, since he concentrates chiefly in BJJ.
