That's a good price but there's nothing special about it- been $40 for a few months now @ fry's.

Doesn't look like a deal in N.CA. Went to the San Jose location and they had it in the computer for $59.95.

iwearnosox: I guess the Fry's near you has better prices. Doesn't seem like too many of the good deals seem to be around here all the time

I just picked up the OEM 128mb compact flash card here at Fry's in San Diego, CA. The box says I-O Data for $39.95 they told me it would be PQI or BSA

At the identical resolution it takes my Nikon camera twice as long to recycle with this new card then with the old 8mb Lexar I had in before. Is this normal or is this simply a very slow card?

i wish i could tell you! i know Compact Flash has different speed ratings but i've seen no such differences (in the marketing & packaging at least) in Smart Media. so i believe there is no real difference between the brands.

there is probably some big factory in China spitting these things out and then they are dropped into differently branded packaging and shipped to the USA where they are sold for varying prices. a lot of markets operate like this and it wouldn't surprise me to find that Smart Media is all basically from the same source. anyone know for sure, or have more info?

I bought one of these cards in Phoenix, AZ. Decided to go with the generic, I don't know of any difference in memory speed other than downloading pictures which I'm not concerned with or the fact that generic doesn't always last as long. Got a new digital camera on the way to give it a try with.

Well I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade but....

Here's my compact flash stats....using my nikon coolpix 880 these are the recycle times
(the time it takes to write to the memory card before the next picture may be taken)

1. Lexar 8mb...3 seconds
2. Kingston 128mb retail memory (just purchased)....3 seconds
3. Fry's OEM (generic) memory 128mb...6 seconds.

I purchased the Kingston 128mb memory Sunday night from newegg.com. It arrived today.
Purchase price was $45 plus $8 Fed-X super saver shipping plus $3 sales tax (California only).
Update! Kingston 128mb. sold out at newegg.com

This is the lowest price on-line for this memory. It's worth the few extra bucks to me
for the increase in speed. I'm returning the Fry's memory today!

Fry's Bayarea has the 64 MB SM/CF cards for 19.95.
