As stated...

Will the card work properly with just one 8 wire connector? My PS has 8 wire PCI-E connections. Currently I'm using a pair of 6 wire connectors on an 8800 Ultra that is getting replaced.

I'm not sure but this is the power requirements

550 Watt or greater power supply with two 2x3-pin PCIe power connectors required (750 Watt and four 6-pin connectors for dual ATI CrossFireX) .
For enhanced performance with ATI Overdrive, a power supply with one 2x3- pin and one 2x4-pin PCIe power connector is required

Nope.

You could use a couple 6-pin connectors though; just Overdrive in CCC doesn't work so you have to overclock using other applications.

So I have to pull an 8 pin AND a 6 to work with this?

I was hoping with the 8 pin connection I could eliminate a 6 wire run. (yes I'm picky with cable management!)

It requires two connectors, either two of the 6 pin or one each of a six pin and eight pin. Each PCI-E plug (whether 6 pin or 8 pin) is rated at 75W and the PCI-E slot is rated at 75W. Apparently this card draws more than 150W of power, thus the need for two plugs.

I'm just thankful I havne't seen a card require THREE plugs... yet...

If they keep it up the cards will have a connector on them the size of the ATX power on the motherboard.

Nvidia Geforce 17560 Ultra Extreme Turbo X3 now with quad 16-pin power connectors!

I thought that the 8 pin plug was rated at 150w.

Well found out the deal. With a SINGLE 8 pin it works fine until you fire up CCC it warns about incorrectly connected power and the card is downclocked, etc.

So both 8 and 6 are definitely required. I have the 8 pin wired to an actual 8 pin connector on the PS now. No issues with o/c as far as the sliders go on gpu. :)

But the drivers do need some work.
