Its just great i tell's u... I thinking about going nvidia again with twin GTX's but the money difference just was too much so i went to buy a Single HD 3870 for my crossfire and ended up with a 2900 XT that also Rs.1500 "$30" cheaper!!!

First off the noise is a lot but idk i game in loud vol.

The card itself is a sexy one more so than the 3870 X2

I played COD4 and my god it was like silk at high resolution

Tried Unreal Tornament 3 and i was so happy.

Crysis gave me a heart attack.

and finally Startrek armada was the same old same old hehe...!!!

BTW will it make any difference if i clock the 2900 XT speed same as my 3870 X2's??

that is my next upgrade .. dump my current OC'd 2900p for a 3870x2 with my 2900xt in FrankenFire

what PS are you running? ... mine is in sig.

edit - just saw this:

get the core and the memory as high as you can as it defaults to the slowest core especially when you cannot use Crossfire and will be using a single GPU. i have my pro nearly at XT speeds except on the core.

So you went to buy a 3870 but they sent you a 2900XT instead? Are you saying your 2900XT and 3870X2 work in Xfire? What does your CP look like, is there a 'Crossfire' tab? What driver version are you using?

I tried Crossfire with my 3850 and 2900XT 1GB the other day and this is what I got, note no Overdrive OR 'Crossfire' tab- granted I didn't get round to playing any games with this configuration to see if maybe by some magic Crossfire really was active, but i came to the conclusion that I'm probably wasn't (I tried switching slots between the 2900 and 3850, no difference). Xfire is not even meant to work between these two chipsets so don't be surprised.

it has worked .. you have to fritz with the drivers .. if you want me to look it up, i will - nordichardware, i think

if you are not getting overdrive something is wrong :p
--did you reinstall the drivers when you added the 2nd card?

is each card connected with all 8-pin leads or adapters OR are you bypassing it correctly? - do not depend on other programs to O/C

Are you using CCC to O/C and if so are you also using another program like RT or ATT tools?

Yes fresh install of 8.3's- I inserted the 2900 first and installed drivers (no 3850) then once that was up and dandy I inserted the 3850 after a reboot, it recognized it, went to an 'installing adapter drivers' from the ATI folder, and it was then recognized as a 3800 series in device manager as you'd expect. I tried the same thing again with the 3850 as the subject the 2nd time- no difference.

I don;t have an 8pin PCI-E plug or the aligator clip installed for the 2900 so I wasn't really expecting Overdrive....just the 3850 was in there (which gets overdrive with just the one 6 pin) so I was hoping for something :), OD doesn't matter anyway if CF is not recognized and working. But the fact of not having an 8 pin (real or aligator clip) and a 6pin for the 2900 should not effect the functionality of getting these two cards working in CF if it is indeed possible.

Yes I have seen the Xtreview article, and the Driverheaven one (infact I think i was the first one to link it on AT a while back :p) where they got it working but I am not sure as to how they did. I'd be willing to give it another try if you can think of anything I missed. I remember a Rage3d ATI BETA tester commented on this subject a while back and he concluded that they are just too different (yes...I wouldn't think they are THAT much different) to be operable in CF.

it does :p

i could not get my own FrankenFire to work [worth a crap] until i did the workaround to fool CCC .. just use the alligator clip to ground the two uncovered pins and run a wire back to the black molex from the clip.
--give it a try and report back ...
