I fold for team anandtech. There is a good app for the ATI cards so I figure I will pick up a pair for running this app and run them in Xfire config for good gaming.

I installed them this morning and ran them for a few minutes and could smell them getting warm. Then I had a few reboots and then a no boot situation.

I took them out and they were hot to the touch. Way too hot for reasonable operation. I checked the fans on the cards and both fans were stuck against the heatsinks. Careful assessment indicated that the fans were mounted incorreclty. I used a dremel to make some new holes and reinstalled them. I have about 6 hours of cool running since then.

It's been a while since I took something out of the box and witnessed this poor assembly. I guess it was my turn. Fixing the fans was cheaper and a better use of my time than contacting the mfr and trying to get a new pair. Although, if they fail in the next 90 days, I will seek replacements.

If you get a 3870 from powercolor, make sure the fans spin before you install them. It will save you some time and effort on the reinstall/fix.

Best,

I had a powercolor radeon 9600XT and it was also a super hot card that eventually stopped working.
Maybe powercolor is just a shitty company?
