I've downloaded these 2 programs twice now and I keep getting .cab errors when I try installing them. I thought it was my old os causing problems last night so I did a clean install but I'm still having problems just getting them to install. Anybody out there hear of this or know a solution? I'm running xp home.

sounds like ethernet trouble with corrupt downloads. are you having any other trouble with your computer since you put the new video card in?

naw, it's running fine other than that. I haven't installed any actual "games" however since, uh, you know, I have to "benchmark" it first to see how it will actually run said "games". Let's try, um, nwn2...

i got the same type of error that I got from installing the crysis demo AND 3dmark06. I tried to install a 2nd time and it went all the way through before telling me that I got a "catastrophic" error...no kidding... so 2 totally different error messages on 2 installs...

Memory or hard disk. Run a scan on your hard drive(s) right away.

defrag too
-how did the memory test run? Is everything *else* is 100% stable?

of course you could always REinstall your OS [again]

My money in on failing or unstable memory. When I had bad memory in my old rig, it wouldn't even install XP, I kept getting missing/unreadable file errors.

Have you still got your 1950? slap that back in, at least then you can rule out memory and other stuff if it works and installs fine again.

naw, 1950 is gone. I have a couple of other pci e cards, but it seems very likely that it's mem. I'm ALMOST done downloading 3dmark06 again, once it's done I'll test the mem.

ok, mem is allegedly ok, but still geting the same error:

CRC error: The file C:\program files\futuremark\3dmark06\3dmark06.dat doesn't match the file in the setup's .cab file. the medium from which you are running the setup may be corrupted; contact your sfotware vendor.

I've gotten this same error or some form of it on several other installs.

I kept getting those errors trying to install XP with a faulty PSU once. Although I doubt Bryan's HX PSU is failing.

You sure your HDD is okay? Did you try something other than speedfan to test it?

Also, what did you use to test your memory and how long did you run it?

And is this the IP35 system you're trying this in?

Noticed you have two hard drives... use the other one and see what happens. Download the file directly onto that hard drive, and install on it as well. If the error comes up it at least should rule out hard drive failure.

Try running your E6750 cpu at stock speeds and see if everything works out ok. It sounds like your 3.5GHz overclock may not be 100% stable and causing file errors. Return everything to stock temporarily and see if things install properly then.

I've had exactly the same.

I think it's the memory too.

not yet, still waiting for in-laws to leave. I'm going to swap out my 520 for the 620 tonight since I remember now that all these probs started when I installed the 3870. I know that it doesn't make sense b/c I had a 1950xt before that, but it's something. also going to reinstall windows again and use the spare 1gb memory stick. once all that's done I'll troubleshoot and isolate/exterminate the problem :)
