3850 AGP

So, i built myself a machine strictly for gaming.... uh, 2 yrs ago. Not a one GD other thing on it except games. Now, my current game machine runs an old 939 socket dual core cpu (FX60) with an ATI X1900XTX video card, and 2GB of pc3200. I'm not into the current 3870's let alone a X2 model which is outrageous... and I figure it will be a while before the 4870's go down in price. I can still game on it with settings either on low or medium quality; for reference 1280x1024 native - So, I've been tossing around the idea of seeing how my old machine would run with a 3850 AGP card. I know they're still more expensive than their PCi-e counterparts but would be beneficial for me in more than one way. My concern is, people complaining about driver issues. As an example: please focus on the review not the price: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16814161226 There is more than this one occasion about people having trouble with the drivers. One guy said: Sapphire told me to get the drivers from ATI/AMD then ATI/AMD told me to get the drivers from Sapphire... I thought i also read somewhere something about a fix because the drivers don't have an .inf for the AGP version..???.. But, i'm trying to pull some information before I make a decision. Can anyone shed some light on this?

P.S. I wanna see what this old P4 RDR Rambus system can do 🙂

EDIT: if you read any reviews from any of these card vendors there is not one without a complaint about driver issues

Yeah, but it's a lower volume product. I remember reading the PCI-E to AGP bridge chip was only about $15 so the $90 premium is a bit steep, but that;s what us legacy user have to deal with. DDR ram is 2x as expensive as DDR2 also. I don't even want to guess how much RD Ram will rape his wallet.

if you are handy with ebay you could probably sell your system for more than a brand new one if you part it out.

seeing as an fx60 or ddr ram goes for a lot. thats a lot of work though. same with rambus memory. 1gb of rambus is still worth over $100 on ebay
