What is the true difference?

from what i know right now is
3820 is lga2011 (can fit into rampage extreme iv) while 2600k cannot. that's the only differnce i can tell. is this true?

It remains to be seen what the street price will be.
With decent 2011 sys brds running $100 more than comparable 1155 brds, it is doubtful the 3820 will have much appeal to enthusiasts..

Diogenes2 i dn't get what u mean. i still don't get why 3820 is cheaper. Do u mean since the 3820 is in the enthusiastic platform (LGA2011) it is not appealing to the enthusiasts because 3930 and 3960 is better?

It's cheaper, because people at Intel who get paid big bucks, have set a price they feel will generate the most profit. Not necessarily from the sale of the 3820 alone, but the affect it will have on sales of other Intel products.

It may be a bait and switch for the 3930k ..
