380W Seasonic enough for this system?

the 380 doesn't have the 150 watt video connector on it. so it isn't exactly future proof in that regard. but it's probably sufficient unless you're running 12 hard drives and SLI video.

I'm of the opinion now that high-wattage PSUs aren't really needed. Example, this system:

Athlon XP-M 2400@2.2GHz
768MB PC3200
5 x 7200rpm hard drives
Radeon 9500
WinTV PVR-350
DVD+-RW
Sunbeamtech fanbus
SATA drive bay

That's powered by a Seasonic 460AGX power supply, however, the Kill-A-Watt power meter I've got says it draws about 186W when the CPU is under load.

However, I don't know how much more power PCI-e cards draw.

eWiz does have some pretty good prices on Seasonic power supplies. They've definitely got Newegg beat on that 380W - they only want $57 for it.

Yeah, that is why I'm considering the 380W since its only $57! I just linked NewEgg since they have much more detailed specs. Decisions decisions.

I may just opt for the 430W to put myself at ease since I have no idea what kind of upgrades I will be doing in the future. Guess it will be good to have that extra headroom in the future.

I recently built a rig with the same DFI mobo you plan on using (great mobo!).

This is quoted directly from page 16 of DFI's user's manual for this mobo :

"Important:
To ensure that adequate power is provided, we strongly recommend that you use a minimum of 400 Watt (or greater) power supply."

The above are in boldface & italics in the DFI manual.

On pg 6 re: Jumpers it says:
"Important:
The 5VSB power source of your power supply must support >= 2A."

On pg 7 re: USB Power Select it says:
"Important:
If you are usint the Wake-On-USB Keyboard/Mouse function for 2 USB ports, the 5VSB power source of your power supply must support >=1.5A. If you are using the Wake-On-USB Keyboard/Mouse function for 3or more USB ports, the 5VSB power source of your power supply must support >= 2A."

So according to DFI you need a bigger PSU.

So you need a bigger PSU.

Taking suggestions like that literally is just as bad as assuming a 450watt generic powersupply is really going to put out 450watts.

Don't worry about this 380 not working. Seasonics are monsters. Any brandname 350watt should handle your system just fine.

My 300 watt seasonic powered my 6800gt and 2.4ghz a64 for a while. =)
I also have the dfi ultra, with an x800xl now, awesome combo. Just glad you picked out a 24 pin!
