I have an Antec Sonata case with the antec 380w power supply. I am still waiting for my 7800gt to get shipping to my home. In the meantime I read it needs at minimum 400w!

I have seen people run their 6800U on this power supply with no problems. Do you guys think I should be fine?

I should only be running one hard drive and burner on top of the computer, no overclocking.

It should work.
I ran a P4 2.8GHz, 1GB PC1066, 6800GT (which uses more power than the 7800GT) with a 330w Enermax (12A on +12v).

Is it dual rail or single railed? You can't just add 12A on one 12 rail and 12 A on teh 2nd one...

If it really is 24 amps, then you should have very little problems.

Thanks for the quick replies, I'll let you guys know if it runs or not. I don't plan on overclocking so I don't think it should be a problem running it all.

You should definitely be fine... if you start getting quirky behaviour after installing the card though and have elimintated any software solutions, I would definitely look at first as the weak link.

No, it's single rail 12A. The PSU came with an Enermax Case that I bought 3+ years ago.

The 7 series is actually less power hungry than the 6 series. I would say there's a 98.5%* chance you'll be fine.

*no basis in fact

Wow thats a pretty good 12 rail for a 380 watt PSU. Just make sure that the OP cuts back on the USB ports, which uses the 5 rail :). with around 100 amps for both the 3 and 5 rails, it might get rough :).

Sigh, here we go again.

12V1 @ 12A + 12V2 @ 12A is just as good as a 12V @ 24A, and more effiecient, and cheaper for PSU makers.

..... thats a little misleading though..................... Since the COMBINED rails are sometimes less with dual rail PSUs than their stated Single rails.

Take for example the Epower tagan Dual rail PSU. It has stated 20A for each rail, but combined, it only gives 30 amps of power.

OP can u tell us how many watts the combined 12 rail gives?

I am running two HD's, a 6800GT, a CDRW and DVDRW, a wireless PCI card, a TV card and 5 case fans off of an Antec True Blue 350W for 2 years now with absolutely no issues. If I can run all that, you should be just fine.

The Antec TP380W has plenty of power. As stated, the 7 series is less power hungry than the 6 series. And a bunch of us run 6800 GT's/Ultras on this PSU.
Now if you wanted to go SLI, you'd need a bigger PSU.

Yeah no SLI for me, I would rather get two LCD's first. I get my 7800GT tomorrow and I'll let everybody know how it turns out.

Looks good, considering the total system power is less then 300 Watts. Your fine!
