Is there something I'm missing or should my 3800X be idling at 3.9GHz rather than 3.6GHz?

Using HWinfo64 for observations
Gigabyte Aorus board
F10 bio, X570
Both Ryzen Power Plans, even High Performance and windows defaults
CPU Clock Ratio - Auto (even at 39 it still idles at 3.6GHz)
Core Performance Boost - Auto (even disabled it idles at 3.6GHz)
AMD Cool&Quiet - Disabled
Global C-State - Disabled

Since you are mentioning a F10 bios , we can assume a X570 one?

PS it is not uncommon for a cpu to idle below it base frequencies depends on power plans/settings.

Try viewing clockspeeds in Ryzen Master instead. HWiNFO64 reads a near-constant 3775 MHz from a 3900x, but Ryzen Master reads much lower clockspeeds.

I ended up changing some things with the Advanced CPU settings and it seems to be idling back up at 3875MHz according to both HWinfo, and HWmonitor

Do you really want to use your CPU like this with all clock automation disabled or was this just a test?

I upgraded from F10c to F10 and that's when I noticed the change. AFAIK it never idled at 3.6GHz always at 3875MHz. I might have changed things not knowing. Some new features were added in the Advanced CPU section.

This sounds like the right answer. Haven't owned AMD since the Athlon 64 days, but a cpu shoud not idle at the base clock (or anywhere near it). My 8700k overclocked still idles down to about 800 mhz.

If he's worried about what HWiNFO64 shows he'll have a heart attack if he views reality in Ryzen Master most likely.

Here's one of those Ryzen Master screenshots of my 3600 in action. Well maybe there was really no action at the time.

Strange beasts they are for sure.

After just installing the latest version of Master on my 3700x rig I noticed they've added the CPU and SOC powers. Guess I'll have to take a look and see if they've changed anything else in there. Would be nice if they added the ability to clock individual cores while not gimping the others like in the past.

That's a very sleepy CPU. Possibly narcoleptic. Perhaps you're not providing the stimulating environment that young processors thrive on. ;-)
