Hey folks,

So I just got my shiny new $90 dual core processor up to 2.4 GHz and want to add some more RAM. I'm thinking of trading my old processor (3500+ Venice) for 512MB. Somebody offered me 2x 256 of some nice overclocking RAM. That would be in addition to the 2x 512MB CAS3 1T DDR400 I've got in there right now

Looking at the manual, it looks like the best RAM speed I can get with 4 sticks is 200MHz DDR???

That blows. I don't really care about RAM speed, but close to 400 MHz would be nice. At least 333...

Is this really the case?

Also, if I did get this in there, would it affect my CPU overclocking results?

I have a KN8-SLI with a 3500+ and 2 X512meg + 2 X 256meg. It will not run at 1T with 4 sticks of ram but I've been able to overclock the ram to 220MHz. It's value ram so that is about the limit with default timings. My new X2 3800 Toledo should be here today. I don't see that having 4 sticks of ram has affected cpu overclocking. I'm looking to sell the 2 X 256 and the 3500+ and get 2 X 1gig for it.

I see. So the only thing that 4 DIMMs totally locks you into is 2T. Too bad, it makes a big diference, but the extra RAM should offset that in gaming etc...

Got my 3800 X2 last evening. Runnig at 2.6GHz at stock voltage. The difference on my board between 1T and 2T is about 250mbs(alittle over 2400mbs at1T to 2250mbs at 2T)

erm running 2 different sets of ram might cause trouble ... and why do you think you can only run the ram at 200, what in the manual makes yo u think that, coz I doubt thats the case.

the memory support table in the KN8 manual is wrong iirc.
but running mismatched memory doesn't make life easy for the memory controllers.
