Funny, they did in 1999. I was buying gasoline for $0.78 per gallon in August of 1999.
It's always amusing to me that for some reason people assume that gasoline is completely exempt from the laws of supply and demand. It's always those greedy oil companies. Never mind that gas is still cheaper in real dollars than it has usually been throughout history. Never mind that gas is still cheaper in the US than almost anywhere else in the world. Never mind that most of the cost of a gallon of gasoline is taxes.
