38ºC HD Health

Ok, short and to the point:
case temp: 28ºc
cpu temp: 46ºc
hard drive: 36ºc

running inside an antec sonata only with rear 120mm (antec supplied) case fan on fan-only connector + thermaltake volcano 11+ xaser edition (grill removed) on athlon xp 2400+ -- is the hard drive temp too high? if so, is it worth adding the extra frontal 120 mm fan? if so, which one, silence is important.

note: temperatures after 5 min of rest after playing 2 hours of americas army

Absolutely not, that HD temp is perfectly safe. Considering most common PC cases have HD's running upwards of 45' C.

Seems about right. I have same case except with a 80mm fan in lower left corner for intake. I get about 37 cpu 32 case. Hard drive temp is normal for just sitting upfront with little air flow. You might try putting black tape behind the drilled holes on the top of the sides so that it makes more air be pulled from the front instead of up top. And the drilled holes just look ugly to me as well.

SilentPCReview did a thing like that, where they taped the air holes of the Antec SLK3700BQE, and left only the fan grill on the front open, it owered the HD temps by like 1-2' C 🙂
