3770k idle changing temps?

Is it normal for a 3770k's core temps to change every second when at idle even with nothing running in the background?

temps look like this:
1st sec: 28-25-27-24
2nd sec: 25-30-29-27
3rd sec: 29-26-30-25

and so on

jumps and drops are usually with in 3-4C but are sometimes a much as 6C

My old core 2 was more consistent which is why i ask.

Look in Task Manager, and you'll probably see CPU utilization jumping too. Background processes, yo!

Looks very normal. I assume you use a 3rd party cooler with those temps. Else they idle around 40-45C.

Yep, that is what I see with my 3770k too.

It was like that when I first got it installed with the stock HSF, it was still like that when I replaced the HSF with an H100, it was still like that when I lapped the 3770k, and it continued to be like that when I delidded the IHS.

In other words, there is no changing it, whatever causes the temperature to flutter around at idle is something internal to the CPU itself and not related to the cooling efficacy that occurs outside the CPU.

This actually happens to me too. The jump from idle (cpu usage 0%-2%) on my 3770k is 26-31 and back down to 26 and temps in between, according to core temp. I am running the h60, btw. I think this is normal for ivyb.
