AFAIK, the reasoning behind the car design changes are to do with safety regulations and cross-platform issues. Top Gear had a show where they talked about cars that they literally couldn't make today because of these changes and increased regulation. It's kind of a shame, really.

Of course, seeing how some of the old cars fall apart in accidents, I have to tip my hat to the strides made forward in safety. Old pickups were the worst, they just crumple up and smash the occupants to bits, even into the mid-90s models. The Dodge Ram, Ford F150, etc, were tough vehicles, but had awful safety design.

I would happily trade modern safety design to have long, low, and wide cars back again. At least, I would like the option to do so for my own vehicle if I so choose. The strides in safety are great, but I don't like that they are forced on us.

I'm in agreement. I want my acre of hood back! I miss having a drivebay I can climb into to work on the engine, and that's with a big block.

I saw an "undisguised" picture of the 370Z almost a month ago (granted, only 1). Looks good, I like it. I hear it's a good bit "smaller" than the 350.

Still, with a price jump they're getting close to BMW Z4/C6/Boxter territory and I dunno how they'll compete.

I'm on the fence with that. I agree with your sentiment, and would support that if it were the case where there wasn't a choice to go out and buy a classic or an exotic or a kit car that met those needs/wants.

I think everyone here has lost at least one loved one or close friend to an auto accident, and if nothing else, I am happy about improved safety standards for that reason.

As far as choices go, yes, we all take a risk each time we get into a vehicle. It goes against my ideals of personal responsibility to support such regulation, but in this case, given that so many tens of thousands die on our highways every year as is, I support safety improvements.

Happen to know a ballpark figure on the starting price? I can't imagine it being such a leap where it steps into Z4/C6/Boxter territory and ends up costing more than a G37S coupe.

NASHVILLE, Tennessee ? Nissan on Wednesday announced that it is increasing the price of the 2009 350Z Roadster by $590, just a month before the next-generation 370Z Coupe is unveiled at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show. The base price of the 2009 Nissan 350Z Enthusiast with a six-speed manual transmission is $37,565, including a $695 destination charge. The increase is "due to raw materials," Nissan spokesman Darryll Harrison told Inside Line. He added that the '09 350Z Roadster will be carried over from 2008. Harrison said that there are no 2009 350Z Coupe models on sale currently, only remaining 2008 models. The next-generation 370Z Coupe will be Nissan's main product unveiling on November 17 in Los Angeles, along with the U.S. debut of the Nissan Cube. The only change for the 350Z Roadster for 2009 is the addition of Moonlight White as an exterior color. All three trim levels get the 3.5-liter V6 that makes 306 horsepower and 268 pound-feet of torque

Damn that's a hefty price jump. Too many of these "lower" priced "sports" cars are going up in price significantly. Evo, STI, now this. I'm glad I already have what I want.

except if it were mid engined and had one of theseright?

Nope. It would still be ugly with that that badge. Engine placement has nothing to do with the bodywork.

There is nothing to answer in that thread. Others read Porsche's statements in such a way as to claim they are much broader statements than I believe they are. That is all.

More power and less weight is fantastic, but I hope they spent the extra $20 to make it with interior plastics that aren't rejects from the Daewoo dumpster this time around.

Especially for the large price increase.
