Looks almost like a refresh instead of a new gen, but I know from collecting info from various sources that this is pretty much an all-new vehicle.

SERIOUS props to Nissan for the power boost + weight drop. Now if they can keep the price under control, could be a winner.

It would be wonderful if they could flesh out the range a little more. Maybe toss the ~270hp V6 from the Altima in a base model for ~$26-27k or so, pretty stripped. Then have the ~350hp 3.7L for the high end models, for low to mid $30s, then a hyped up Nismo/V-spec model with ~400+ hp for $45-$50k.

Less weight.
More HP.
Better styling (more like the 240 than the second 300).

It's a win IMO.

It definitely doesn't look as fat as the 350. They trimmed down the butt and the fenders look more menacing. It looks like it's ready to pounce whereas the 350 looks like it was ready to ooze and make a mess all over the floor that you had to clean up.

It's just a facelift, nothing special.

Edit: Ahh, didn?t realise the weight/HP difference.

On looks alone, yes.

Aside from that, it's basically an all-new Z. Different chassis, different motor, less weight, etc.

Yeah I just noticed, it should be interesting.

Coming head-on it looks like an overstuffed and mildly annoyed chipmunk. IMO it still looks very bloated.

IIRC, it's notably smaller than the current 350, while gaining a slightly wider stance and wheelbase.

Wow, that looks pretty damn nice.

I started looking at 350Zs recently after a friend told me to check them out. Before than, I was set on an S2000 with a hardtop.. Unfortunately, I'd be going used so the 370Z is out of my reach right now.

It looks squished.

Probably for good reason :

"It's been widely reported that the 2010 370Z will be shortened by four inches and will ride on a slightly widened track"

I was commenting on it's looks. I don't like the squished trend that cars have today. I like long, sleek looking cars. The old 280Z's were the pinnacle of the Z car's stylings to me.

But then, what do I know: my daily driver is 18.8 feet long.

Yep, I knew you were commenting based on the appearance, I was merely stating the technical reasons behind the appearance change. The previous 350Z was already a sort of blotchy squashed looking thing, and shortening it up just increases the squished appearance.

AFAIK, the reasoning behind the car design changes are to do with safety regulations and cross-platform issues. Top Gear had a show where they talked about cars that they literally couldn't make today because of these changes and increased regulation. It's kind of a shame, really.

Of course, seeing how some of the old cars fall apart in accidents, I have to tip my hat to the strides made forward in safety. Old pickups were the worst, they just crumple up and smash the occupants to bits, even into the mid-90s models. The Dodge Ram, Ford F150, etc, were tough vehicles, but had awful safety design.

I don't like the headlights and the rear end looks ugly to me. What I do like is that they shortened it and widened it. I still would never pay that much for a car though.

They changed them to the Maxima headlights.

I would happily trade modern safety design to have long, low, and wide cars back again. At least, I would like the option to do so for my own vehicle if I so choose. The strides in safety are great, but I don't like that they are forced on us.

I like it a little more every time I see it. Hopefully they will do something with the interior which I just didn't like at all, even after they tweaked it.

Also, the door handles....uggghhh.....they need to go, something I hated about the current car and should not be carried over.
