Im having trouble picking the exact cpu for the computer im about to build... This computer will be for GAMING ONLY. All school work and internet fun is done on my laptop.

Advantages and disadvantages

3700 San Diego:
+ 2.2 ghz
+ 1mb cache
+ $60 cheaper
- Single core

3800 X2 Manchester:
+ Dual core
- Only 512mb per core
- 2.0ghz

Remember, this is for gaming only. Will dual core take off in games eventually? Well, just pick one. Im ordering today. Il be overclocking, and both seem to overclock well so Im hoping that is not an issue.

i made the same mistake you are thinking about and went single core only to later see my mistake and buy a dual core. i had the 3700 you are thinking about and went to the X2 4200, with the 4200 it is like have two 3700's at the same time as they are the same 2.2 GHZ. as for the cache size about the only place you see any noticable difference is in benchmarks.

The 3700+ San Diego is an excellent chip, but if I could afford a X2 3800+ Manchester I'd jump on it in a heartbeat.

Ok, Manchester it is..

Undoubtedly Ill probably sell the rig if Conroe turns out to be everything that its rumored to be, but I guess selling and upgrading is what this hobby is all about.
