Decided im going single core in my system build.. Something medium priced used strictly for gaming that I might just sell when Conroe or something insanely great arrives.

The 3700+ San Diego at 2.2ghz 1mb L2 is $24 cheaper than the Opty 148 at 2.2ghz and 1mb L2

They both seem to overclock similar... ANyone have a specific preference?

I'd wait for am2 at this time, at least to check pricing of the new boards. By going with ddr2, you'll have more board choices when conroe arrives. Unless you can get a Fry's combo deal with free or low cost mobo. I'm using one of those, and it works pretty well.

it's really your call. the 3700+'s tend to have a bit faster memory controllers, but the optys tend to clock a bit higher. My 148 is running 3Ghz on 1.6v at the moment

AM2 is this month, if you plan on running DDR500+ then you're fine if not better off, but DDR2 would be an advantage later on.
