I've decided to go the one massive LCD route instead of dual (actually I already have dual but I'm looking to get one of these for my apartment when I start co-op). I'm trying to decide between these two. What're the differences and which one is ultimately better?

check out www.avsforum.com

They have alot of in depth discussions on these TV's including information about problems with the units. Like for a while the 42/47 inch Westies had a green crush issue over HDMI.

Another thing to consider, I suppose, is how much you are bothered by the 42's pixel pitch. the 37" has 3547 pixels per square inch (which is quite low already, compared to a 24", for instance) and the 42" is even lower at 2752. If you are not bothered by huge pixels and granulation then the 42" is a good choice. I personally wouldn't use the 42" as a desktop monitor, but that's a matter of taste. I'm sure it'd make one hell of a TV / gaming monitor however.

It depends on how far you are sitting from the display. From my 30", I sit about 2 feet away, max... If I had a 37", I'd be sitting about 3 feet from it and if I had a 42", I would (do, rather - Dad's Plasma) sit about 4 feet from it. With all else being equal, pixel size doesn't matter much because once a display takes up most of your field of vision, then increasing the size means you have to increase distance from the display nearly proportionate to the size increase. In other words, all this pixel density crap, is just that, crap when talking these large displays. Pixel can be the size of a house, but so long as you are a mile away, it doesn't matter much.

Well, I plan on using it as a monitor. As a TV, 37-42" is simply not enough :p But as a monitor.... it's massive! I think I'll be sitting like 2 ft away max. As I'm sitting here on my laptop now, I'm approx 1.5 ft away.

I suggest a 37" then. Even that is enormous at just 2 feet. I've owned both a 37 and a 42" Westy and the 42 is great if you're a little further away. You'd be craning your neck too much if you had it right in front of ya.

37 if using as a monitor and sitting fairly close. I just did some quick measurements because I've been on the fence about the 37W3 and and the 37" on my desk at 2-3 feet away would be pretty massive. When I move back to 4-5 feet away, it looks to be a comfortable distance given the size of the display but but unfortunately I can't reach the mouse/kb at that distance with my current desk. I do have a wireless set but I'd rather use them on the desk than on my lap.

There's no way I'd go with the 42 or 47" unless I could sit across the room on a couch or something. Not to mention the bigger pixel pitch WILL make for grainier text (especially noticeable if you sit close). I'm so tempted to go with the 37" but I'm worried it will be TOO large for the distance I'm sitting at. I might end up settling for a 24" simply because I can't imagine how big the 37" would be at only 2 or 3 feet away. The 42" is tempting as it's only a couple hundred more than the 37", but with that logic I'd probably end up with a 61" simply because each larger size is just a few hundred bucks more than the last. :)

I have a 2407WFP right now and I'm trying to sell it and get the 37" Westinghouse. Bigger would be my choice. 42" is too big for a computer monitor.

If your using it as a monitor, the 32 inch sharp is probably the safer bet.

37 inches from 2 feet = AHHHHH

course the Dell 3007WFP-HC is the best choice overall IMO for what you want

remember the pixel count is what matters

2407WFP = 1920x1200 ~ 2.3 megapixels
Westy 37/42, Sharp 32 1920x1080 ~ 2.07 megapixels
3007WFP = 2560x1600 ~4.01 megapixels

Also the 3007WFP-HC has a 92% color space compared to 80ish percent for typical LCD's

The difference is definitely noticeable when I compare a normal 3007WFP to the HC side by side, especially in the greens.

Another Vote for the 37' westy. I just love this thing, thou i'm sitting about 3-4 feet back from it. After about 2 weeks it just becomes natural after the shock and awe of the size and quality wears off. Then I load up stalker or rfactor and just start grinning again. Good Times!

Another vote for the 3007WFP for reasons stated above.

I also have the 37" Westinghouse, and it works very very well as a monitor. Its on my desk about 2-3 feet away, and text is very easy to read on it at 1920x1080 and you have tons of space to move stuff around. This has a lot better color than any other LCD I've used, including my 22" LG monitor. I have my 360, ps2, and PC all hooked up to it. The ps2 gets very pixelated as you can imagine but its nothing too bad.

I had the 37" and it went tits up about 9 months later. I got 100% store credit at Best Buy and went ahead and got the 42". I'm glad I did. This is for TV monitor , not for desktop...

I would recommend the 37" for computer use. I've seen the 37" Westinghouse at a friend's house, and I had no problem using it from 2-3 feet away. I think 42" is way too big, 37" is huge for a pc monitor. Put the extra money you save from picking the smaller LCD into a good video card.

You sit further from it. that's the whole point
