37" LCD HDTV for computer screen

How do I resize my Vista desktop to fit in the LCD's screen area. Right now it is oversized with the height and width overscanning the screen? Is there a way to readjust the desktop? I have a Nvidia 260 superclocked vid card, I looked in the Nvidia control panel and was unable to find any resoloution.

There is a resize tool in nV contrl panel. You must have missed it.

When I open the Nvidia control panel it lists my HD monitor but the options area is grayed out and unaccessable.

you have to turn it on by playing with other options...

are you using component or HDMI cable? do you have VGA in on your TV? if yes, use that.

My vid card has DVI out and I have a DVI to HDMI adapter, then HDMI cable straight into the TV. Why would I want to use VGA? Besides, neither my TV or the Vid card have VGA outs/ins and what would that have to do with the issue at hand? "Turn it on by playing with other options."? There are no other options. Either I go through Nvidia's setup pgm or the TV setup menus of which the TV menus have nothing to adjust picture size.

hmmm i am using DVI-VGA and all I had to do was tell it to use the other screen and set the resolution to 13x7....

Your TV should have a feature on the menu called "JUST SCAN." This will fix your problem.

What 37" TV are you using? On my Samsung 37" I either have to use the VGA connection or rename the HDMI connection to PC. That way it will automatically be a perfect 1:1 pixel map.

My set is a 37" Vizio. There is nothing in the menu settings that allows you to resize. In the imput settings I currently have it set to Digital HD however there is a DTV setting for over the air digital broadcast. It unfortunately is not working. I'll just go back to my 22" LCD and at some point get a slightly larger one for the computer. The 37" is a bit large anyway.....games are fun on it though.

Hey what's this about? I have a 40" Samsung and resorted to a DVI to VGA cable. I'd love to do straight DVI and have 1:1. Any details?

OP, if your set has a vga port, you could always use one of these. As you're finding, DVI to HDMI is not as easy as it would seem to be.

OP, if your set has a vga port, you could always use one of these. As you're finding, DVI to HDMI is not as easy as it would seem to be.

Are you using DVI to HDMI? If so you can plug into the HDMI2/DVI connection on the HDTV. I'm not at my computer right now, but if I remember correctly there is an option to edit the name within the TV menu. Go there and change the name of HDMI2 to PC. Like magic it will be a perfect 1:1 pixel map and will look clearer than VGA (somewhat).

No dice unfortunately. Yep I have a good DVI to HDMI cable, tried HDMI1/DVI (it's #1 on mine), renamed, it looked great, but didn't quite cover the whole screen. I imagine a 37" screen would have been perfect. Oh well, thanks for the help!

I was playing Half Life 2 and Call of Duty 4 on the 37". I just went back to my 22" monitor earlier today. But....on the 37" and if you're sitting about 2-3 feet away from the screen you actually focus in on areas of the screen like you naturally would by moving your head to that area. The rest of the screen becomes your (periferial sp?) vision. Can be quite intense.

If you really want peripheral vision you should get the triplehead2go and play with 3 monitors. lol I bet Crysis looks great with 3 screens and over 3800/5000 pixels wide.

That's odd. Renaming the HDMI connection to PC should produce the same result as the VGA PC connection with the only differences being the digital connection (with the benifits of that) and the ability to have sound pass through the HDMI connection.
