im considering purchasing a seagate external hd, however, i noticed it's rated at 3600rpm.
now other drives im considering are 7200 but are slightly more bulkier and cost a bit more, whereas, seagate's is tempting at $140US.

i was going to get a 1gig sandisk usb key, but thought why not this 5gigger for $100 more roughly and 4gigs more, but a slower speed...any thoughts or recommendations? thanks guys

3600rpm might or might not be faster than a flash drive(flash drives come in different speeds(1x through 100x), but 3600rpm will be painfully slow for people accustomed to 7200rpm hdds.

is size too much of a matter for you? why not just get a external hdd from lacie or something?

since it's a pocket drive with maximum of 5gb, it's fine. The 7200rpm drives are full size harddrives with much larger capacity and therefor the need for more speed.

Morph, i noticed the Lacie drives after posting here and doing a search, but the majority recommended sticking to the "3 big brands" which I to would be more comfortable with.
Plus, considering im in Canada, usually bigger manufacturers, have the support i would need, or at least an 800# that i can call.

Biostud, thanks, never thought of that, hence my post.
